Is there a way to get variable toon lines, like in the Iron Giant movie?
Ok, so the makers of Iron Giant had a special software thingie made to vary the lines of the toon. I just made a proof-of-concept test using AM99 and the toon renderer. I can share what I did, so you can try it on your own. Make a test model or use a copy of any model you want. I started with something simple. Open the model prop panel, toon tab, set thickness to .50 (as a test) and change the line color to black. Open new cho, have the camera set to toon and default so the camera won’t over-ride the model toon settings. Render to file as TGA with a step 3, file name = test000.tga, range 0 to 30. Go back to the model prop panel, change the thickness to 2.50, and render to file — step 3 again, this time range 1 to 31. Go back to the model prop panel again, set thickness to 1.25, and render to file — step 3, range 2 to 32. Open QT3 or 4 pro, and use “open image secquence” choose your test000.tga image and let QT do it’s thing. Play the movie, see the concept, make mental notes for adju
