The VGA signal is carried on an HD15 connector. The VGA signal is an analog signal. DVI and HDMI are digital video signals. There are adapter cables that convert an HD15 to DVI connection, but it is impossible to convert from analog to digital, or from digital to analog, without using an active device. In order to convert VGA to DVI or HDMI, one would need to use an active analog-to-digital converting component. These adapter cables, therefore, are for connection of DVI-A to VGA only and, thus, are incompatible with consumer electronics applications.
