Is there an alternative to copper roofing nails?

No. Dissimilar metals in an electrolyte causes galvanic corrosion. That is why zinc is used on iron ships; the zinc (sacrificial anode) corrodes to preserve the iron. Using anything other than copper nails or a copper-alloy such as bronze would cause corrosion of the roof panels or the nails in short order starting with the next rainfall. I seem to recall something about plastic coated nails, but the coating easily scratched putting the dissimilar metals in contact, which is what the plastic coating was supposed to prevent. My information is from 10 years back when I looked into a new roof. Maybe there has been some inventive progress made. I think I saw on a home project show nails with a polyethylene plastic collar which fit into prepunched holes in the copper sheathing which insulated the nails.
