Is There an Easy Way to the Top of Wheeler Peak, Taos, NM?
First of all, the use of “easy” when discussing an attempt to summit a 13,000 foot plus peak might be a totally poor choice of words. On the other hand, such an endeavor may well be similar to the proper method to eat an elephant…one bite at a time. I am not a doctor but assuming you are in reasonably good health, don’t have medical issues, are well prepared, and pace yourself, reaching the summit of Wheeler is a real possibility. The stimulation for this short article was a Guest at Indian Hills Inn, Taos Plaza. Staying several days and wandering both the town sites and the nearby mountain trails, this 50’s or 60’s fellow was in basically good condition. Claims he walks 4 to 6 miles almost daily in his hometown area of Dallas, Texas.
