Well – if you need to plan for a show or for breeding, your vet can prescribe lutalyse injection which will make her go into heat – that way you know she wont’ be in heat at your event. It usually isn’t used for show purposes in horses – just for breeding in horses, but it could be. It’s commonly used in cattle for showing though to prevent them from being in heat at the show. If you just want her to stop being in heat (which probably would make more sense) all together you can either get her spayed (yes they do spay horses!) or you can give her regumate which is progesterone based and will prevent her from going into heat. The heat thing that you’re describing is pretty normal for most mares. My mare becomes best buddies with other mares when in heat and will stop and refuse to move.
