Is there any banks that let you open an account without having a credit check done?

In short the answer to your question is NO – I presume with you asking this question that this is because you have adverse credit? If so then you needn’t worry, banks will offer you a basic bank account regardless of your credit status. By ‘basic’ i mean one with no credit facilities. But a lot of banks offer you a debit card called either a VISA Electron or a Solo, the accounts also allow you to set up Direct Debits and Standing Orders and have wages/ benefits paid in etc. The only other type of account that i can think that won’t credit score you is a Post Office Card account but you can only withdraw money using your card at the postoffice and can only have benefits (not wages) paid in and there are no DD or SO facilities. Other thing you could go for is a pre-paid credit card, i saw an advertisement for one saying that you can have wages etc paid in, but these charge you for paying in and withdrawing money which seems like a scam to me! So to sum-up i would visit a bank such as Nat

The banks and credit unions usually do hard credit check of your credit file when you open an account with them. They want to know your financial history in order to protect themselves from shady characters that commit fraud. Each hard enquiry may drop your FICO by 5 points.
