Is there any change in the mindset of the railways over these years, especially after liberalisation in 1991?
If I have to tell you about their need and desire to usher in new technology, Indian Railways has been generally progressive. They have always been looking at bringing in new technologies. They brought in the latest electric locomotive technology, upgraded their diesel locomotive technology, and they have also been trying to upgrade their car bodies’ technology. Indian Railways today is in a positive mindset. They have done well on the back of GDP growth, and have had major successes in terms of revenue generation. There are many initiatives they are talking about – setting up a dedicated freight corridor and new factories for upgrading the vehicles and so on.
