Is there any difference between a production line and batch production?

related and similar – but – not the same production line/assembly line – always runs 1)add a part 2) add another 3) cook it 4) bag it 5) bags in boxes for shipping where as a food product, like pasta, you HAVE to start with a predetermined amount of ingredients – blend – let rest – let rise -(all in the same container) then roll out onto the moving assemble line to cook/dry etc food network has great shows about – how things are made from cheese crackers to jelly beans and so on hope this helped all the best

Usually a production line makes one thing only i.e a left hand car door continuously. Batch production is making a set number, i.e one week left hand car door, next week right hand car door.

I used to work in product development and they are two different things. In bigger factories where they are making a lot of something they will have more than one production line which is indentified seperately so, for example, someone found a screw in the food they would know which line to check instead of having to shut down the entire production. Batches are the identified by each bowl of mixture that is made. So even if a factory makes for example, 5000 pies, they will make the mixture in batches of enough mixture for 1000 pies at a time. By having a batch number it means that if the pies don’t taste good or have something like a screw in them, they only have to throw away 1000 instead of all 5000. You will probably find that smaller companies will produce in batches as they won’t have a formalised, large production line that the enormous companies have.
