Both cordon and espalier allow more room, more light, and more air for the plant to develop and are better than a bush or tree, if you have a suitable wall, fence, or other support you will get an increase in yield, they are best on a south facing support. If they are on a solid wall keep them about 3″ from the wall, and try to get a book on how to prune and train them, your local library should have one.
