Is there any validity to stereotyping of people?

0

There is validity in making generalizations about groups (that is the study of sociology) but not in making assumptions about individuals who are part of a group. This is a big difference that sometimes people get confused. For example, it is appropriate to say (and this is backed by studies)that: -Blue collar families tend to use physical forms of punishment, while white collar families tend to use emotional forms of punishment to discipline their children.

No very few people fit into the pigeonholes that are made for them Most of us have some form of stereotyping applied to us and apply similar to others. All black people are not good at sport, All white people are not racist. All middle class do not look down on everyone else. For every stratum of society there is a stereotype and most of them are complete crap and fueled by hypocrisy and ignorance.
