What does the word ‘moral’ means? It means and includes values like (but not restricted to): ethical, good, right, truthful, honest, decent, proper, honourable, just, and principled as accepted by the majority in a society. As you can see, except truth and justice all other values are relative to time and space. What is honourable or decent or ethical in one society may not be so in another society. Moral values are therefore those which have been accepted by the majority in a society. Different societies may have different values. These values are not ‘made’ they ‘evolve’. They are not made by individuals but evolve in a society over a time. An individual cannot change them. If he attempts to change them, then he will be considered as ‘immoral’. There are certain values which are accepted by all societies i.e. they are universal. Unfortunately in our times only two values mentioned above are universal. They are Truth and Justice.
