There are several roads recognised by the LTSA as being unfit for rental vehicles. They are Skippers Canyon (near Queenstown), 90 mile beach (Top of the North Island) Ball Hutt (Ski area near Christchurch). You are allowed to drive on unsealed roads although we strongly recommend you stay on the main sealed roads.
