Is there ATM / Credit Card access in China?
It is often difficult in some cases to convert travelers checks or use Credit/ Debit Cards depending on the location of your school. That is why we emphasize bringing cash. Some places will advertise the MasterCard / Visa logo but you will still not be able to use your card because it is Chinese Network. In larger cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, and Hangzhou, this is not a problem. Detailed information about the various places where you can use ATM’s, Western Union, exchange and obtain cash will be listed in your trip primer package. I suggest setting up an online Western Union account that a family member can access. In the event of a cash emergency your family member in the USA can electronically transfer funds to a nearby Western Union electronically.
