Is there contamination in groundwater from former Fort Ord activities?
Yes. There is groundwater contamination at four known sites under the former Fort Ord. Does the contamination affect drinking water supplies? Yes. The Army and the district detected trichloroethylene (TCE) in Well No. 29 and Well No. 30, the district’s supply wells located in the Ord Community. Some amounts detected were above 1 part per billion (about the same amount as one drop in a large swimming pool) while some are just above the lower limits of detection using agency-approved testing methods. Under state and federal law, no action is needed when the amount of TCE is less than 5 parts per billion.
