Technically speaking there will be a ban on selling Realistic Imitation Firearms (RIF’s) and not buying them. The Violent Crimes Reduction Act makes illegal the sale, import and manufacture of RIF’s. Section 36 of the Act (the section which deals with RIF’s) is most likely going to come into force this October. The Act doesn’t effect ownership or use of RIF’s so nobody will have to surrender replicas to the police and we can continue to use them as normal within the bounds of the current legislation (no carrying replicas in public and suitable covered for transport in the Anti-Social Behavior Act, and 1.38J (372fps with .2g ammo) maximum power for self loading guns allowed by the Firearms Act.) Also importing parts to maintain existing guns is allowable. Airsoft skirmishers have been promised a specific defence from the act by the government, allowing us to continue to buy/sell/import/build guns. The regulation of the defence has yet to be published, but we do know that it only applies
