Is there oil or natural gas in New York?
Yes, although not as well known as Texas and other big oil producing states, New York has a history of oil and gas production. In fact the first natural gas well in the country was dug in Fredonia by William Hart (1821). The first commercially successful oil well in the world was drilled just south of Jamestown in Titusville, Pennsylvania (1859). Currently, New York produces about 398,000 barrels of oil and 50,000 bcf of gas per year.
