Bananas are the fruits of a herbaceous perennial, commonly called a banana “tree” but not really a tree. While the morphology is similar to a “tree”, it is not the same. If I recall correctly, (not really sure about this) the difference is part of the banana plant’s growth dies yearly, rather than being incorporated into the next year’s growth like a tree, hence the ‘herbaceous perennial’.
