There is a high degree of similarity between the Care Commission inspection processes, and the Best Value Review and contract compliance activity within local authorities. There is also a high level of similarity between Care Commission registration processes and Local Authority accreditation for the APL. Within Housing Support services, the inspection process is similar to Supporting People service reviews. These processes are not yet sufficiently synchronised to avoid duplication. There is also the Communities Scotland inspection process to add to this. During Care Commission inspections, the degree of compliance with regulations and standards is examined. However, we think they could be more closely related to the original registration- e.g. it has been evident from reading some reports that inspectors have not been clear about the distinction between care homes/housing support services/support services.
