The number of home sales sold last month in our beautiful Valley of Heart’s Delight was 1,736, down 21 percent from the month before but up about 5 percent from August 2008. The median resale house price, meanwhile, was $515,000 — down 5 percent from July and down 13 percent from August 2008. The Santa Clara County report reflects the trend throughout the Bay Area, where sales slipped and the median resale house price was down 8 percent from the month before to $375,000. “Part of the midsummer pause in the market could have been caused by home shoppers becoming frustrated by market conditions they didn’t anticipate,” DataQuick President John Walsh said in a statement today. “In many areas there were fewer homes, especially cheap foreclosures, to choose from, and lots of talk about multiple offers and all-cash deals.
