Is two ply or triple ply yarn better than one ply?
Cashmere comes in — one-ply, two-ply and triple-ply — depending on weight. In a single-ply garment this torque may translate into a bias in the fabric. Two ply is better than one because the ply twist in the opposite direction offsets the torque inherent in a singles yarn. Summer-weight cashmere is thinner – often “single ply,” which can be nearly transparent, compared with the double- and triple-ply weights of winter. But thinner is not necessarily cheaper. Further plies add no additional quality. Sweater designers use additional plies to add weight and color options.
