Verizon’s network assists the GPS in the cell phone, so it finds its initial position faster and can determine a position in areas that GPS alone won’t work (like indoors). VZ Navigator is the application that runs on the phone to give you navigation, maps and local search features. Unlike a normal Personal Navigation Device, VZ Navigator uses maps and points of interest that are stored on a server, so you don’t have to update them yourself. Since your phone allows you to connect to other people, another advantage is that you can send your friends or family a “place message” so they can meet you at the right location.
