Is Vonage considered a landline?

0

Technically Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service such as Vonage is not considered a landline. A landline is a telephone company provided dedicated telephone line that connects you to the Dial Central Office, which supplies the power for the phone to work. In the event of a local power outage in your home or neighborhood, or in the event of a cable/internet/data outage, your dedicated landline telephone will still work. Many people mistakenly think that if they have a telephone (a device that can make and receive calls) with a unique or “dedicated” telephone number, that they have a dedicated land line. This is not the case, as I described above. Using Vonage or other VoIP service might work for your work purposes, but the company must have a reason for requiring you to have a dedicated land line. You should ask them about the requirement to see if they will make an exception in your case, due to the mitigating factors you described. Good luck.
