Is Wood Broadway’s Mary Jane Watson? Saturday February 28, 2009 The Broadway-bound musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark hasn’t made any casting announcements, but sources ranging from U.K. gossip blogs to the New York Times say Mary Jane Watson, played to fan acclaim by Kirsten Dunst in the hit movies, will be played onstage by Evan Rachel Wood. That tracks in at least one sense, Wood was in Across the Universe, which was directed by Julie Taymor, who is directing and co-wrote the book for Spider-Man. Producers recently announced a February 2010 opening for the show at the Hilton Theatre. Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark features music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and The Edge.
