Is ZIRKEL Wireless service the same as DSL?
No. While we do offer speeds as fast (or faster) than DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), our wireless service is an alternative to DSL. The main difference is that we do not incur cost to use a telecommunications carrier (such as Qwest) for “last mile” connectivity. Instead of using outdated copper phone lines, we deliver our connection wirelessly via radio waves. A majority of homes and businesses in Steamboat Springs are not eligible for DSL unless they are located downtown close to the phone company. It usually takes 30 – 45 days to find out whether or not you are eligible for DSL. If you have line-of-site to one of our antenna locations, ZIRKEL Wireless can set you up with a high-speed connection typically within one to two weeks.
