Costa Rica has improved these “squatter” laws over the past decade so that now it is much less of a risk than before. Also it depends on the area. In the area where Rancho Silencio is, this is not really a problem because I have a caretaker checking on the property every few day. In some areas you definitely will want to have someone check in on your property at least once a month.
