I’ve noticed that some iron valve box manufacturers state that their products meet the requirements of ASTM A48. What is this and what does it mean?

ASTM A48 is an internationally recognized standard specification that tells you it has met certain tensile strength requirements. A iron cast product that meets these standards may have a strength standard stamped on the item somewhere, usually indicated in either inch to pound units or in SI units (the International System of Units). ASTM A48 is a specification used for gray iron castings that are created for general engineering purposes.
