One area shelter had a record number of animals find new homes this year. The Central Nebraska Humane Society had a very busy year. From court cases to contract disputes. Humane Society officials said it was this publicity that led to a great year. 14 mistreated Dogs; 11 neglected Horses; One contract with the city that caused a major outcry. For the Central Nebraska Humane Society these were tough times but the result was worth it. People figured out where we were. They were very supportive of us as well as very concerned for the animals and the issues they were in, said Laurie Dethloff of the Central NE Humane Society. So far this year the Humane Society has adopted out almost 1,000 animals. That is nearly 250 more animals than last year. Laurie Dethloff said these public events are the main reason why.
