Now, I’ve tightened them twice in the last two days but can’t get a completely tight seal. The gaskets are quite thick and very hard. Is there a good heat resistant sealing compound that I could try on both sides of the gaskets? Brand name? KEY GRAPHITE PASTE – FACTORY RECOMMENDED, STILL AVAILABLE, STILL THE BEST EXHAUST GASKET SEALER I’VE FOUND. LOOK FOR IT AT INDUSTRIAL SUPPLY OUTLETS – ESPECIALLY PLACES THAT SERVICE THE BOILER INDUSTRY. At least tightening the gaskets has completely solved the backfiring problem! Hooray! Just want to get the last of the “phitt” “phitt” sound coming from the exhaust gaskets taken care of. I’m not sure what the problem is with your distributor cap. Where did you buy the parts? Any chance you are not running a stock distributor? I found that the Borg-Warner parts I have purchased do not fit well – but a brand called GP Sorensen fit perfectly. The 1952 Chevy 6 parts are what I put in yesterday. However, I have a suspicion that I need to replace/rebuild
