Many people who are new in recovery need a structured environment. What type of structure does Jewish Recovery Houses provide?
New residents enter the Houses on probation for the first 30 days. After that period, they progress through three phases, each of which has higher levels of responsibility and privilege. We have a philosophy that stresses individual responsibility. We have fewer rules than many institutions, but enforce those rules more consistently. Residents must be employed or in school, pay a nominal rent of $125 per week, perform a daily chore in the House, and submit to random drug and alcohol testing. Curfews are enforced according to the level of the resident, and residents must attend 12-Step meetings regularly and document their attendance.
