May county/court personnel costs associated with indigent defense be paid for with grant programs?

There is no standard answer to this question. The Task Force encourages counties to use grant funds for personnel if they have developed internally separate duties and have designated personnel to deal with the indigent defense issues. Also, counties that have Public Defender offices may use the grant funds to pay for personnel costs. No prosecutorial or incarceration staff may be justified.
