My 14 year old beagle keeps peeing in the house?

Did you talk about this problem with the vet? If not, you might want to. This can be a sign of kidney and/or bladder failure. When I was thirteen, we had this problem with our miniature schnauzer (who was fifteen). He was going a tad senile and couldn’t figure out his way around the house, so at times lost control. He was the worse one … the two other dogs that were aging also at times lost control, but not as bad as him. I’m not sure what to tell you, but please do not punish your beagle. Trust me, they know that they’re not supposed to go in the house and it does embarrass them. Punishing him might only make it worse.

My best advice would be to take your baby to the vet. He could have some sort of internal infection that needs to be corrected. If not, I know there are doggie diapers, and perhaps if those are too much maintenance, you could try to re-train him. You may even want to buy those puppy training pads and put them in the spots he likes to go in the house – it’s less mess and cleanup for you, and he can go there and do his business without driving you crazy.

He’s a good old age, must be well-loved and cared for. Dogs do have dementia just like people and loss of memory and control. Maybe just put a thick stack of newspapers in those 3 spots that he pees at.
