It can just a functional murmur and of no consequence. My question would be is this a new finding or has it always been there? Keeping your dog at his optimal body weight is the best you can do to reduce strain on the heart. At 14 your dog is a senior citizen, what does your vet say? I don’t think Pedigree is a bad food for your dog if his coat and weight look good. If a bit heavy try vegetables for treats instead of biscuits. The phrase “heart healthy” means low fat or healthy fats but our food isn’t necessarilly good for our canine buddies.
