You can get miralax as a prescription. My son was on it for a long time….we’re talking well over a year. You need to make sure your daughter is eating lots of fruits and vegetables, trying to go to the bathroom after meals (to retrain the muscles), drinking lots of fluids and getting plenty of exercise. Has she been monitored by a doctor? It would be a good idea. Good luck. Edit: Just for the record…Miralax and it’s generic equivalent work by retaining water in the intestine. So, it’s only really effective if you are drinking enough water during the day too. It isn’t something that your body will come to rely on either.

Hi this is the MOTHER of the 5! Unless she has a medical reason (such as prescribed meds that cause constipation), I would shy away from stool softeners, until I had no other choice, from fear of dependency. I would instead, offer all the grapes, raisins, fresh fruits, and veggies (none that are known to cause thickening of the bowels, i.e. bananas), that she could eat…and help her have lots of physical activities, such as running, skipping, hopping, bicycling, swimming; things that cause her to have lots of movements and increases her metabolic rate. Also encourage fresh clear water, LOTS! Give her silly straws and cups to keep her excited about drinking it. I stay away from fruit juices….bad for the teeth. Instead offer all the fresh fruit I can. Unpeeled apples, peaches, nectarines help add more fiber, but if she won’t eat them unpeeled then peeled is better than nothing. Too much “dry” fiber will not make things better. I know, one of mine was very constipated for about 1 year.

What is your question?
