You offered little details so I will be general in scope… If the car does not “turn over” when the key is turned to start then I would suspect: 1) a defective ignition switch 2) a completely dead battery (which you said is not the case) 3) the transmission is not in Park or Neutral (for an automatic), or the clutch not fully depressed (manual transmission) 4) a possibly misaligned neutral safety switch 5) a defective starter solenoid If the car’s engine does “crank” but does not start then it could be any number of things; such as: 1) bad fuel pump (or blown fuel pump fuse) 2) clogged fuel filter 3) bad electronic control module You didn’t mention cleaning the negative terminal. Both clamps should be removed, post and clamp scraped clean and reinstalled. Any clicking sounds, lghts dimming, etc. when the key is turned to crank but not turning over would indicate a weak/bad battery or a hung starter. An alternator only provides electricity to recharge the battery and provide power whil

If you know for a fact that the battery is fully charged then it’s not the alternator. The alternator is what charges and keep the car electrically powered while the engine is running. It sounds more like the starter may be bad. How long has the car sat? I’m only asking this because a friend of mine let his car sit for just over 2 years and the battery went bad. Every time he tried to jump start that poor thing it wouldn’t start because the battery wasn’t staying charged well enough. When it did try and start the starter would click because it had just barely enough power to engage the starter solenoid and that was it. I was nice enough and went out and got him a new battery and the car started right up because the battery was brand new.
