Usually frozen batteries will be the first thing to get you in extreme cold the camera will just refuse to extend the lens, and the LCD will go white. Condensation can be more insidious, because water can be re-frozen to ice and cause very tiny problems. Be very cautious about moving the camera quickly from cold to warm (and back to cold) environments.
