My piano tuner told me my piano can not be tuned to A440. Why not?

Many older instruments that have not been tuned for many years are difficult to raise to the A440 standard. If a piano has many replacement strings, breaking strings, poor structure, heavy corrosion, or loose tuning pins it may indeed not be tunable to A440. The piano often times can still be tuned to itself or to a lower pitch but it will not be useful as an accompanying instrument or for correct pitch training. For several folks who use their piano solely for their own casual enjoyment this may not be an issue.
