Answer Craig, Congratulations on the purchase of your home! No the hard part comes – bringing the house up to current standards. Orangeburg pipe is so flimsy using anything caustic like copper sulphate will certainly make matters worse. Since you already have penetrations in the main waste line, I would suggest replacing just the section of affected pipe (if you can find a round piece to place a no-hub coupling on). Barring that, I would accept this as a challenge to make you first upgrade to the home your main waste system and remove as much Orangeburg pipe as you can.
