My speakers abruptly stopped working on my hp laptop: “No audio output device is installed”?
Sound cards don’t usually go bad so suspect the driver for that device somehow got corrupted. First test is to disconnect the speakers. Does sound play through the computer? Can you hear the startup sound if you restart the computer? If it does then the problem is the speakers, not the computer. If there is still no sound, make sure the volume is at maximum. The Sound control panel will show these settings. I know that Dell gives a utility disk with all the drivers for that computer on it. Did your HP come with one? If yes, try running it to install sound drivers on your laptop. Something else to try … Open the Device Manager control panel to see if the computer detects a sound card. If it does, it should allow you to automatically obtain (update) its driver online. Other than that, its over to HP to find the driver and reinstall it.
