My sunroof is leaking, what does it cost to replace the gasket / weatherstrip on my sunroof ?
Repair costs vary with the make and model of sunroof. More importantly, the weatherstrip is rarely the cause of a leak unless it is visibly damaged. One of the least understood facets of sunroof operation is water management. Many sunroof designs, both factory installed and aftermarket, and nearly all moonroofs allow a controlled amount of water to enter the vehicle. This is necessary because there is only a slight contact pressure between the weatherstrip and the sunroof opening on those types of sunroofs to minimize wear on the weatherstrip when it slides back and forth in the opening. A drainage system is built into the perimeter of the sunroof to evacuate any water that seeps past the weatherstrip. This system includes a drain tube at each corner of the roof to drain the water back out of the vehicle. Most leaks are caused by a blockage in this drain system due to foreign material clogging the drain tubes, most commonly dirt, leaves and bugs.
