Nuchal translucency nt scan?
I had a nuchal fold scan with my daughter to test for downs syndrome and other anomalies, they certainly did NOT take any of my babys blood and never put a needle into my tummy either. I did have a routine blood test but that was from my arm as usual. I think your friend needs to read up on things before offering advice, she is referring to the amniocentesis test which can be done at around 20 weeks where they draw off some of the fluid from the womb, the baby is never touched in any of these tests so please please stop worrying. http://www.emmasdiary.co.uk/pregnancy/2n… Good luck and pay no attention to anyone except someone that has been through it or your midwife who knows more than your friend does.
For the NT screen, they take blood from you and do an ultrasound to measure the fat pad on the back of the baby’s neck. They don’t stick any needles in your stomach or take any blood from the baby. They may need to do a trans-vaginal U/S to get a good view of the baby, depending how far along you are. But they don’t stick any needles in your belly. The worse part of the NT sceen is the needle stick when you get your blood drawn.
