NYS travel recommendations
It’ll be difficult to see tourist attractions in New York for one or two days, because it is a very large metropolis, especially if you do not know anything and do not want to spend money on excursions. I also recently traveled to Minneapolis and found a list of best things to do in Minneapolis. You may find one for New York, or it may come in handy when planning in Minneapolis.
Places to research (all in NYS) would be Cooperstown, the Finger Lakes region, the Catskill Mountains region and the Hudson Valley region.
