It makes sense in Japan for X to mean negative and O to mean positive, because that is how they use their symbols. The rest of the world is the opposite. If you are asking questions or filling out a questionnaire, a check mark, or X, means you accept that answer, and leaving it blank, or an open box (represented by the O) means you do not accept it. Color wise, the colors match the rest of the world (red = negative, blue = neutral (or positive in case of the PS3). Letter wise, they match Japan. The reason Sony had a problem with the colors is because technically the X should be red, based on what the symbol and color mean.
