Once the HIE grants are awarded, what is HFS plan/timeline moving forward? What are the next steps in terms of using federal Health Information Technology (HIT) funds?
Successfully attracting federal HIT funds to Illinois will hinge upon the collective ability of HFS, partner state agencies, and collaborating stakeholders to organize and demonstrate readiness to advance toward the goals of ARRA. HFS hopes that the successes of these planning projects can be leveraged to obtain further federal HIT funds as outlined and defined in ARRA and any future federal legislation or rules. Although the grants will have to address this issue to some degree, what support will HFS offer to ensure/facilitate buy-in from patients, providers, payers, and other interested parties (including the business community)? HFS is committed to efforts that will advance HIE deployment and utilization in Illinois and strengthen the state’s ability to attract federal investments in HIT.
