Both professions treat the same group of biomechanical problems, but have a different philosophy. Osteopaths look for functional disturbance in the joints whereas chiropractors look for positional change. As a result the treatment is a little different. Chiropractors concentrate on the high velocity “click” manoeuvres to correct the joint position whereas osteopaths use more gentle soft tissue and articulatory techniques as well as the high velocity thrusts, as they are called, to achieve our goals. Chiropractic treatment is usually much shorter in duration and patients are often seen several times a week and frequently on an ongoing basis. Osteopathic treatment programmes generally involve weekly appointments and we endeavour to avoid long term dependency on treatment..
