other herding dogs such as Border Collies)?
They are much more independent than BCs, so can be inclined to go hunting when let off lead, BUT they are very food motivated, so if trained well, they can be just as good as BCs, like BCs they are herders, so care needs to be given where livestock are concerned. There is a FL trained as a support dog for Dogs for Disabled, and the charity is considering more Lapphunds, so this proves that they are very trainable in right hands. If you can beat the independent hunting bit! One of our lappy owners also works for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf, and her pet is being trained as a demonstration dog.
