The grant program is funded by the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act. Therefore the replaced vehicle must have a diesel powered engine. Gasoline powered school buses are not eligible. The replacement of the diesel powered engine can be a school bus powered by a hybrid or a propane powered engine that at least meets EPA 2010-certified engine requirements. Proof that an alternate new vehicle meets EPA 2010-certifed engine requirements should be attached to the grant application.
