Pet hedgehog – would he live in my garden or try to run away?

If you mean a European hedgehog, you’ll need to check and see if they’re legal to keep as a pet where you live. If you mean an African Pygmy Hedgehog, which are most commonly kept as pets, you cannot keep it outside. These hedgehogs cannot hibernate like European ones can. They go into hibernation, but they cannot pull themselves back out of hibernation and usually die if there is no intervention. APHs need to be kept from 73 to 78 degrees F at all times in order to prevent hibernation attempts. If you’re looking to get an APH for a pet, check out the sites in my sources to find out more about them and the care they need. That will help you decide whether to go ahead and get one or not.
