PETA has introduced a new billboard campaign featuring an obese bikini clad woman alongside this slogan “Save the Whales, Lose the Blubber: Go Vegetarian”. Do they really think that this sort of publicity stunt will encourage people to go vegetarian?
PETA has been know for being really stupid in their PR and advertising. I find it offensive and I am a life long vegetarian. They turn more people off then they convert. How can they be this insensitive and still be considered a valid organization. Years ago, my family supported PETA until they started sending graphic pictures of mutilated animals in color photos to us. We are all vegetarians. Why were they preaching to the choir. We didn’t need to see those pictures. Besides how much money was being wasted on those mailing that could have been put to better use. PETA is the reason that many people think that vegetarians are crazies.
Personally, i would find that kind of advertising really offensive. I do not think that being vegetarian is a weight loss choice, but a lifestyle choice. To lower themselves to that level, I would think PETA are cheapening the ethical reasons for choosing vegetarianism. PETA may well support the “Ethical Treatment of Animals”, but an ad campaign like that shows their total disregard for humans!
