Insulation contractors cannot insulate near live knob-and-tube wiring. Utility companies offering insulation rebates require a licensed electrician to certify that there is no live knob-and-tube wiring. Over-heated wires can cause fires, so the Mass. Electrical Code prohibits covering live knob-and-wiring. Replacing knob-and-tube is the only real solution.  more
