Many administrative records were lost or destroyed over the years as a result of fires and decisisons to “weed out” administrative files. Further challenges are posed by changes in the administration of the Texas Rangers — from Mexico to the Republic of Texas, to the State of Texas to the Confederate State of Texas, back to the Adjutant General’s Office of the State of Texas to the Texas . The roll of Texas Rangers will likely never be complete, but it becomes more comprehensive and diverse every day. It now includes women as well as individuals of Anglo-European, African-American, American Indian and Asian descent. A major part of the Texas Ranger Research Center records consists of information donated by families who have pieced together the history of a Ranger ancestor. Families may misplace their records over the years, but with your support, information deposited with the Research Center will be here for generations.
